5 health tips to keep in mind

Winter is fast approaching, with its annual strains on health sure to follow. Here are some tips for good health, in both foul weather and fair.

These come from health-fitness-tips.com:

1. Quit Smoking: Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that smoking was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of tobacco products that kill. Just recently, we’ve seen a surge in smoking in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late smoke cigarettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or ‘tough guy’ stance of Hollywood smokers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cigarette…. the next one.

2. Protect Yourself from Pollution: If you can’t live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is not good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It’s a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: ‘Smoke gets in your eyes’…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.

3. Wear Your Seat Belt: Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes. Thought for the day: Buckle down and buckle up.

4. Floss Your Teeth: Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it’s because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don’t. Thought for the day: Floss and be your body’s boss.

5. Avoid Excessive Drinking: While recent studies show a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more than that can cause other health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer. Thought for the day: A jug of wine should last a long time.

BeneFit High Beam

benefit high beamIf you’ve read my How To Prevent Cosmetic Acne post, you know that all sorts of skin care products and cosmetics may contain ingredients that clog pores, which then cause acne. Whenever I buy a new product, I always check the ingredients, and make sure none of the first ten ingredients are on my list. Recently a friend of mine gave me BeneFit High Beamwhich is a great face highlighter that you can use on your browbones, cheeks, or anywhere you want a bit of a glow. You can also mix it with your foundation to give your face an all-over glow.

I put the High Beam on last night and marveled at how great it looked. It gives a subtle pink/silver sheen to the areas on your face you wish to highlight. Then I remembered to check the ingredients, and was super sad that it contained several ingredients to avoid if you are acne-prone:( I could still use this on my browbones, since obviously I don’t get acne there, but there’s no way I’d use it on my cheeks or anywhere else. I will be on the lookout now for a face highlighter that is safe for acne-prone skin. The High Beam is great to use if you don’t get acne.

So my point is to check every single product you own if you do indeed have acne or are prone to getting it. And don’t use anything until you’ve read its ingredients. Even blush, and face powder can contain bad ingredients. Also check your concealer, eye cream, and every single other product you put on your face! The only thing I don’t check are mascara, eyeshadow, lipstick, and eyeliner.opiate detox

valentine's dayWith Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to get perfect, lucious lips! MAC has a little tutorial about how to achieve the “perfect pout” (which you can see in this picture). The lipgloss in the picture is Plushglass, which I now have to try!

Philosophy Candy Hearts is a super cute trio of lip balms out just in time for Valentine’s Day. The three lip shines come in Melon Daquiri, Vanilla Birthday Cake, and Rasberry Sorbet flavors. I hope my boyfriend gets me this for Valentine’s Day! These high-shine lip balms are great to wear if you have a boyfriend (like mine) who is afraid of getting lipstick, or lipgloss on his mouth!
